Joan Wiffen - NZ HERO Matchbox Project
Hi everyone, this is my New Zealand HERO Project that I have been working on for a few weeks now.
Miss Blair gave us the task to present all of our information in a matchbox. I did mine on Joan Wiffen she is a fossil hunter. She found her first fossil here in New Zealand in 1865, it was a tailbone from a Theropod dinosaur. Joan's early life at the age of 16 she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force.

William Pike Outdoor Challenge Rock Climbing Experience!
At Cattlestop Crag on the Port Hills at the top of Summit Rd, the year 8s and 7s went Rock Climbing and Abseiling! It was amazing I wish I could do it again and again! This exciting experience happened on Monday the 20th of June 2016. It was a 15 minute walk till we reached the rocks. We went up in a car and I went with Tanya, Nikita’s mum.
When I stepped out of the car I could see the gondola. I felt like a bird being so high up. It was really cold in the morning, but got warmer as the day went on. If you're wondering why we went rock climbing, it was for one of our William Pike Outdoor Challenges. The two focuses for that day was Resilience, meaning don’t give up, and the other one is Pride, that means being proud of yourself.
I climbed 4 rocks and made it to the top of all four. I was really proud of myself and still am. If I could do it again I would try to climb at least 3 or 4 more rocks. We went for a whole day. The most terrifying thing about rock climbing and abseiling was you had to trust the rope and the person who's holding the rope. Josh was one of the teachers, he held the rope for the first two times. Then for one of them Miss Blair held the rope and Miss Todd held the rope for the last time.
Abseiling was scary because I was going from one side to the other side. The cliff was really high. You could see pretty much all of the city. Abseiling was really fun. The first two times I climbed the rocks my hands really hurt but the last two times were fine. This activity was really fun because when I was rock climbing I had to think where to go and what's the easiest way to get up. Also it has given me confidence in myself. I was afraid of heights but now not!
Here are some photos of me!

It was such a awesome and fun day!
